Hellplot: The Story So Far

Aug 18, 2008 22:55

One last post before the plot starts, and then I'm done tl;dring all over your poly_tldr! I hope. Of course, I can still be contacted in comments on any of my posts or via AIM (Annwyd Hates You) if anyone has questions.

This post is just to clarify a) the timing of the plot and b) what's actually going to happen.

Phase One starts Tuesday, August 19th. In this part of the plot, characters and places will begin to be affected by the demonic energies seeping through the fabric of the City's reality. How exactly will this work?

Places will take on a more infernal attitude. This may involve them becoming literally more hellish--a stench of brimstone, for example, or sinister red light and heat--or they might just get creepy. Light might fail in them; strange and horrible noises may come from dark corners. Objects may seem to have a mind of their own, and that mind is likely to be bent towards endangering people in the area. Feel free to be creative with this, though; the way a garden is affected will obviously be different than the way a shop is affected.

People will find, as I said in the first post, that their "dark passions and sinful inclinations" are much enhanced. I've gotten questions about just what this means. Basically, their character flaws? Exaggerated in whatever way is most likely to lead to ugly, unpleasant behavior. Perhaps a character who is normally just a bit snarky starts becoming downright cruel and malicious. A character who is usually somewhat aloof can become inhumanly distant, perhaps to the point of seeing people as merely toys. A character with a nasty temper might see her wrath consuming her and spiraling completely out of control. Someone who's known for being innocent? His innocence might turn into destructive self-centeredness. How fast this happens is up to you the players, but I'd recommend being a little bit gradual about it--perhaps use the first day or two to build the change up. Unless, of course, you've got plans that need it to happen fast. We don't need to be too consistent, okay. A wizard did it.

Phase Two starts on Thursday, August 21st. At this point, other characters can begin actively fighting the corruption. This isn't to say that they can't start noticing that things are wrong and trying to understand what's going on before then--I'd just like organized efforts to stop the spreading taint to wait. Similarly, the actual cleanup won't happen in just one day, but rather be spread out over the course of three, ending on Saturday, August 23rd.

How the cleanup takes place will vary. Basically, it's a spiritual thing, so any characters with psychic, magical, or spiritual powers can come up with something from their source canon that would make sense as a "cleanser" of evil or demonic energies.

Some suggestions:
--For magic types: Purification spells; wards.
--For shinigami: purifying kidou spells; an advanced kidou that turns the formless demonic effluvia into low-level hollows, which can then be defeated.
--For the faithful: Prayers, religious rituals, and exorcisms (although you might have to catch and restrain the people you're trying to rescue first...).
--Magical (or techno-magical) items that allow "normal" characters to have an effect on the taint (a weapon that can personify it as a fightable monster, or a special tea set for a magical tea ceremony that will purify the area).

If you need a way to avoid fixing everything too quickly, you can always have some of the efforts go wrong, or you could start on NPCs and move onto affected PCs.

That should be all the spam needed for now. Enjoy. ♥
