It's (she's) been on the loose (on the lam?) for about a week now. We've posted on our local neighborhood webpage but nobody has stepped forward to claim her.
I'd keep her if we had a fenced yard. She's quite friendly, for a chicken.
I told Rachel if we fed her, maybe she'd hang about forever, you know, like cats do. *g*

Like the ad says, if you're a free range chicken, you roam free; it's what you do.
Some of my neighbors chickens visit frequently; I guess they feel less competition over here. It's quite likely that, if you provide food, water, and a laying box*, she'll hang around. However, chickens scratch the ground deeply as they look for bugs. If she becomes a permanent resident, your lawn will become quite tattered. OTOH, hens can lay an egg a day, so she'll pay for her feed.
*One chicken likes a deep box that she can scrunch down in; another likes the box on its side -- she's protected on three sides, but can see out. I'd put two sturdy cardboard boxes close to each other, one upright and one on its side, and see which she prefers.

We'd love to keep her but we do have coyotes in the pasture behind our house. I'm afraid she's going to come to a bitter end.
We're going to try to catch her this evening (if she comes back around) and take her out to a friend who keeps chickens. Wish us (and her) luck!
