Lol, ditto that! Even when grocery funds are plentiful, it's a routine so drilled into me. We tend not to shop till we are pretty much OUT; with the exception of the dried goods such as grains and beans. I actually like this way of doing it. I like to see how creative we can be.

i have a couple of full meals in the freezer right now - leftovers, natch - and lots of chicken broth as well as the means to make more broth. and peppers, lots and lots of cut-up peppers. in fact i'm out of jars to store leftovers in!

Ha, me too. Or simple laziness. Or thinking you shouldn't need to go to the grocery store several times a week to be able to make dinner.

I think this is an awesome idea, though I do have to question the timing! In the northern hemisphere, with the exception of warm places where food grows year-round, this is the time when we should be stockpiling our pantries by getting as much fresh, local food from the farmers' markets. I actually do the pantry challenge in the winter, buying as little as possible and using up stuff I've bought earlier in the season. Right now I'm trying to build up my supply of mashed frozen local strawberries to have on hand next winter.
