Putting the sugar back in soft drinks

For a limited time, Pepsi is offering Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, both made with sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

Pepsi's not alone-here's an interesting Slate piece about HFCS in our food culture: Dark Sugar.

Soda = bad, so I try to avoid it, but FYI, Pepsi offers a product year around in Europe called Pepsi Raw (its been available since last year) which is also cane sugar sweetened.

Also, you can buy kosher Pepsi & Coke at certain times of the year - this is also made with cane sugar, as is Mexican Coke, which is fairly widely available.

Yes! Pepsi also has Pepsi Natural--perhaps the equivalent of Pepsi Raw. Still, interesting that they're, at least temporarily, experimenting with expanding their sugar-sweetened offerings.

i've tried both the pepsi and mountain dew throwback, as well as the mexican coke (i don't tend to drink soda, but i like novelty) and it's amazing the difference in flavor - no bitter aftertaste! if they do a sunkist throwback, all might be lost for me.

Trader Joe's and Whole Foods (and yeah, I know the locavore arguments against both) sell store-brand all-natural orange sodas sweetened with sugar that are quite good!

I will have to agree..for me it doesn't have that syrupy nasty taste...

And FYI Snapples is going to pure cane sugar. ...

My thoughts on this is CS is going to get really exp. due to the whole biofuel thing

it amazes me that advertising now includes boasting of things just having sugar in them, like snapple. *shakes head*
