Snacks?

Howdy Pollanesquers!

I'm wondering what people have for snacks, especially at work. Right now I take in trail mix and yogurt with fruit/cereal. I've been having those, for, well, a while, and would really appreciate other ideas.

So, what do y'all do when you get those rumblies in your tumblies?

questions: cooking

Laughing Cow or Babybel cheeses. Olives. Cashews. Pomegranate seeds. Pita chips and hummus - both easy to make at home!

What kinds of olives?

Answer: basically whatever looks appealing when I'm at the store? My standard are the big pitted green ones, but Kalamatas are also quite nice and, well, really I run the gamut. I try not to take olives every day, just because they're so salty, but I don't tend to use a lot of salt on anything else, so I figure it balances out.

I take almonds and dried cherries, mixed up, in a little bag, and usually an apple and pear as well. I also made [sweet potato muffins] the week before last, and they were a fantastic snack - filling and tasty and kept me going a long time.

And we just happen to have some sweet potatoes lying around waiting for us to do something with them. Brilliant! Thanks

I like carrots and baby tomatoes with hummus. Also, sometimes, if I'm feeling industrious, I'll bring in the 700 different tiny tupperware containers required to make myself a gigantic salad. If I add enough chick peas to it, it keeps me full for quite a long while.

That's funny that that's your current snack -- I've been munching yogurt, granola, and diced strawberries for a couple of months now!

bringing in 700 separate tupperwares to make into a salad - that is my plan tomorrow. :)

11 raw, unpeeled almonds (indian habit, my mother & all my aunts insist you have to eat 11 of them at a time)

I keep a jar of soy (or cashew or almond) butter plus whole wheat crackers in a drawer

peanut butter pretzels (the low salt ones, from TJ's)

if I can get myself organized I like hummous or italian white bean puree with veg or pita chips, but I'm rarely that together & that's my snack for days when I work from home

greek non-fat or low-fat plain yoghurt with a spoon of honey

OK, I'll ask, why 11?

TJs has pb pretzels? I gotta get me some of those. And nut butters + crackers = FTW.

LOL - culturally eleven is considered an auspicious number. So are numbers like 51 & 101 etc, so if you give gifts of cash its in such amounts as well as when you do certain things (like eating almonds) for your health. Serendipitously its also just about half an ounce of almond ;D which is a good serving size, less than 100 calories.

Re the TJ pretzels, yummy little nuggets filled with low fat PB, either with reg or no salt on them. Love the things.

I usually have leftovers from dinner to take. Maybe a soup or stirfry, or leftover veggies. Pasta or a leftover grain item are also common items for me.

Also:
fruit
nuts or some sort of trailmix
bread to toast and a bit of butter and jam to spread on it
cheese
homemade baked good
sourkraut
pickled beets
salad

In a pinch, Lara Bars. Minimally processed, organic/fair trade ingredients. About as good as you are going to get with a commercially prepared food.

My lunch usually is usually 3 items with at least 1 item being some sort of fresh produce, usually another being sweet (could just be sweet like fruit, or maybe it is a homemade dessert), and some sort of healthy fat (such as olive oil dressing on a salad, cheese, butter on toast or yogurt - I use whole milk yogurt)
