What is interesting about this is from the look of the curve, it had topped out during the Clinton years, and if you'd had a responsible government it would have fallen below $5 trillion. As is the graph stops at 2004 and the present debt (2007) is over $8 trillion.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, after all, your children will pay for it, while trying desperately to compete with economies that are now emerging, but in ten years time will be much much stronger.

Now, how does America pay for the next war?
Or is that what credit cards are for?

Interestingly, the graph answers the comic's question (about GOP fiscal discipline): It's not a myth, just a holdover from Eisenhower.

This cartoon is falacious in one respect. Had Reagan's congress passed his budgets as proposed, the deficits would have been smaller.

Are we adjusting for inflation? If not, OF COURSE Regean, Bush, and Bush would have the most debt: they're "spending" the most because things cost more.
