Mr. Fish's cartoon is based on a Florida police department using mug shots of African American men on targets. You may have not known about that; so the point of this cartoon may not have been as clear.
A former coworker once said, "I'm not African American. I'm black." To which I responded, "Actually, you are kind of beige. [x] is more of a chocolate. [y] is ruddy, and I am polka dotted." He smiled and got off his rant when he realized I was being genuine.
I'm more into humanism, I guess. I know people still judge others based on assumptions about characteristics, but I wonder about taking a single word or phrase and saying that is what you are. Isn't that accepting yourself as a stereotype and limiting your scope?
