The only source of authority that conservatives really respect is corporatism, and anything that detracts from that is a threat and perhaps even somewhat un-American.
I'm not going to bother getting around the NRO's paywall, but the introductory grafs suggest to me that, like most conservatives nursing a grudge, they assume themselves to be at the center of Tyson's thought.
This whole "politicization of data" canard would be a little more persuasive if it weren't just a means for justifying the GOP's adoption of a virtually universal skepticism and upholding the status quo - i.e., adopting a position that itself lacks any persuasive evidentiary or rational basis. It's one thing to point out that the "politicization" of "global warming" science may be obscuring important countervailing evidence; it's another to rely on that "politicization" to act as though "global warming" isn't occurring and that nothing useful can be achieved by fully examining the issue.
Of course, "politicization of data" is its own phenomenon whose existence needs to be established. It doesn't seem that you've ever presented any evidence of its actually occurring.

It is scary that being pro-fact seems to make you automatically anti-republican.
