I don't see why a non-LEO has any business playing vigilante and demanding to see a CCL. Because that is exactly what the crazy old dude was doing. If you're that concerned, call the police. It's their job to handle it, not yours.

I'm a bit confused, here. On the one hand OP says, "What the flippity fluckity floo?", suggesting that the older guy was justified in his demands, yet I'm willing to bet OP would also think those open carry protesters are nutburgers for scaring the Hell out of people by open carrying because you don't know for sure what their intentions are.
