I guess I don't get it. Except for the part where she's deliberately subverting another culture's dance moves, why on earth do we give a shit about this?

Because the youth of today is our future, and it is kind of reassuring to know that they are as silly and sex-obsessed as we were, even though that also means the future is going to really suck hard.

I guess I don't think being sex obsessed or silly is all that bad, but seriously, I don't understand. Maybe my brain functions differently. I don't get why we care about this shit. Why did we care about Octomom? Why did we care about someone being gay, or the name of the new Prince of England, or this? I can see why Kelly Clarkson feels impacted; Miley Cyrus is a direct competitor to her. But other than the fact that Cyrus has appropriated the cultural trappings of another race (ie, she made a conscious decision to be "more black" with her new album and this performance) what difference does it make? Syria is in flames, and the internet explodes when Ben Affleck is picked to be the new Batman. I just don't understand.

You want to know how many more page views the Miley Cyrus thing got than our article on the wildfires ravaging Yosemite? Like 6 gazillion more.

That’s on you, not us.

I'm not sure I can keep up on the narratives around Ben Affleck and Beyonce's haircut and now I need an opinion on a former Disney Star Gone Wild?
