Are Mass Murders Our Price For Freedom?

Some people have made arguments that if there were better gun control the mass murder at Virginia Tech wouldn't have happened. I've also heard that if people were allowed to carry weapons they would have been able to defend themselves against the killer. I disagree with both arguments. The issue of guns is a red herring. and/or health care, especially in the mental health fields are terribly underfunded and many people can't afford therapy or get proper treatment due to lack of funds, and so problems deepen and remain unaddressed. also there is still an element of shame attached to mental health problems, even though they are so common. people are expected to pop a prozac and get on with it.

Its ironic that you talk about the collective good when the home land of Cho Seung-Hui is home to a culture much like you describe (though he moved here when he was 8 and this is probably more his homeland than Korea is ( ... )
