I'm not an atheist, (not Christian either though :P ), but this line "An atheist must also suppress all notions of morality." really pissed me off too!!

I'm worry, but NO!! You can be morally "good" without having to believe in a deity... Else if they believe that all people that are not religious are evil (which is one way that people could interpret what they are saying)... or in fact, if someone is Islamic, or Muslim, or anything else OTHER than Christian, then they too are "evil", because they don't believe in a "God" god.

o_O Or am I being too critical?

I agree with that. I do think that good and evil tends to boil down to what one does to other people.

Agreed, one's sense of morality is more likely to be dictated by environment one grew up in, and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with religion, which often just re-enforces existing understanding of what is right and wrong... at least that's what I figure :P :)

I rather believe that someone can still have a sense of what is "right"(good) and "wrong"(evil), irrespective of what they believe in :)

Mind you, if you've been brought up that unless someone believes exactly what you believe, they are evil scum... then I could see how someone could essentially be "brainwashed" into believing that everyone else is evil...

You've hit upon the most common reason why Christans hate and fear atheists. But the bottom line is that atheists are underepresented in prisons around the world.

How many internees at Guantanamo Bay are atheists?

you don't believe in pixies in the wainscotting? sacrilege!

seriously, it astounds me how much christians will twist and distort logic trying to squirm around the inconsistancy of their position. i've much more respect for the christians who just say that they believe on faith from a mystical position, rather than the ones who try to justify their position (unsuccessfully) using the tools rationality and logic. leave the logic to us, we're much better at it...

History and Mythology answer different questions. (from all_heathensI'll start by saying the original author made himself a target by assuming any validity to mythical history (Christian bible ( ... )
