Steve Hamm does a good job of outlining possible strategies for addressing food shortages:
*Lowering agriculture subsidies in all countries (i.e. free trade in commodities)
*Technological improvements in agriculture
*Improve crop yields in developing countries

In the USA:

*Teach people to return to home gardening and harvest preservation. *Support responsible conservation to clean up our waters and forests to provide ample hunting and fishing opportunities.
*Support initiatives to keep family farmers in business and eat locally (Farm Aid, for example).

The more self sufficient people are concerning their food supply, the better.
