Star Wars work in progress You Became to Me

Sixteenth part of a work in progress
Title: You Became to Me (as suggested by avari_maethor)
*Pairing: Mainly Anakin/Obi-Wan with mention of Padmé
Rating: Uhm, pretty PG-13ish now but inevitably at least an R (?)
Disclaimer: I do not own the lovely boys from Star Wars, more's the pity! I just have an extremely contrary muse that refuses to shut up . . .

how could it have come to this?, not this crude matter, be mindful of your thoughts . . ., there's no mystical energy field . . ., luminous beings are we . . ., . . . you want this . . ., . . . your thoughts betray you, try not. do or do not. there is no try., don't underestimate the force.

Oh My God. I have been waiting lo these many parts for Anakin finally to find out the truth, and did he ever! More truth than I ever could have expected! What a payoff!

This part, it just absolutely shreds me. Damn. Seriously. What a payoff.

Anakin really gets put through the wringer, but of course Obi-Wan's the one who gets physically hurt. Poor Obi-Wan . . . he really loves him. It hurts his heart, to have to hurt Anakin by telling him these things. *Sighs*

You know, when I first saw RotS, and Obi-Wan asked Padme if Anakin was the father as he was leaving and then said "I'm so sorry," without even waiting for an answer, and then the way Obi-Wan touched her face, on the ship, after the battle with Anakin . . . my heart clenched and something went click. I'd known that some people wrote about Obi-Wan being interested in Padme, but I'd never really gotten that vibe at all. Then I saw RotS, and a little voice said so that's why she seems glad to see Obi-Wan but is awkward around him in AotC, and probably also why she goes for Anakin, even though she knows it's a bad idea! It's because she was in love with Obi-Wan and knew she couldn't have him. Poor Anakin, it's really a shock to him. He's kept his blinders on so tight about Obi-Wan and the way he's really felt about him ( ... )

I just want to tell you how much I'm enjoying the story. I stumbled across it recently on my never ending quest for real plot based Star Wars fiction. You have managed to keep everyone very in character (never an easy task.) I'm looking forward to reading more.

Thanks! I hope you still think they're all in character later on in the story, if you keep reading. People are evolving on me, some of them more rapidly and obviously than others. I've been making changes to some of these earlier parts in response to feedback I've gotten. By the end of the week, I'll repost links to these first parts and add some more (maybe all of 1-10?) links to other parts, so people can have a look at the changes and some of the rest of the story. More of it's on my lj than has been crossposted elsewhere.

Character evolution is inevitable. It's a byproduct of good storytelling. What's important is that the characters began in character and evolved through the story that you're telling. I love your story. It's obvious that you've spent a great deal of time thinking it through and developing the plot. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it.

Thanks so much for saying so. I have been working on this for several months now, and I know my writing style is a lot more -- dense? Detail-oriented? Internal even while the action is ongoing? -- well, wordy and character-driven than Star Wars tends to be written, sometimes, even in the novelizations of the movies. But a lot of what I get out of the movies comes from what I read into what's going on between the lines, what's motivating specific actions, what characters are thinking/feeling. I get caught up in listening to the characters, sometimes, and it doesn't even occur to me until later to wonder how what they're thinking will read like, to others. Sometimes, a character will surprise me and evolve in some way that I'm just not expecting -- especially lately, with two people in particular and their outlooks on and relationships (such as they are) with Obi-Wan. I don't want to give anything away, but I honestly thought Bail had died in the crash with Padme, at first. I got so far and all of a sudden he was alive and doing things ( ... )

Thank you so much! I must be doing something right if someone who doesn't read or support a lot of slash that pairs Obi-Wan to someone is enjoying this. Don't worry, there's actually twenty-nine (well, twenty-eight and a half, I suppose) parts of this already written, and I'm planning on writing until I think it's done. I'm just being slowed down by the approach of the holidays at the moment . . . *Heavy sigh ( ... )

Uhm, well, what's the last thing you remember reading before this that you think you're missing a part? Because you might've caught one of the parts mid-editing. I've added so much material to the first dozen or so parts that it's generated an entire new part all of its own just in the past week. I had to go back and edit new material in to their proper places and then move sections that were too long to fit in just one post afterwards from one the end of one part to the beginning of the next one. While I'm in the process of editing things in, the parts are prone to changing suddenly. But as far as I know, everything's up and properly labelled now. You might try going back and starting again from the beginning (part one) and skimming until you reach the part you know you got to.

Went back and checked and by gum you're right -- it was still locked! I don't have any idea how that happened, since later parts were unlocked, but it's not locked any longer. Sorry about that -- thanks for pointing it out! I might have posted the silly thing still locked if you hadn't said something about it.

They're on my own lj. Can't remember if they're all unlocked or not. 29 parts in all right now. 29th part is shorter than others because it's not done yet. I'm on break from making jelly/jam and cookies this week with my mom, so not a lot of time to be online. Sorry! Will check back tonight after supper to see if the other parts are unlocked or not.

In the process of doing so now . . . Well, except for maybe the last few chapters, which aren't really as settled as the others yet . . .
