I don't know what I'm going to say to my boss tomorrow. I feel so uncomfortable and he's made me feel guilty. Truth is I will confront someone but I feel uncomfortable spoiling relations too. I'll feel uncomfortable around him for the rest of the day no matter the outcome. I want to believe he'll do the right thing but I don't have much faith ( Read more... )

I really wanted to like the books but they didn't engage me at all. I still have NM sitting on my book shelf, untouched. Bella was just blah to me, nothing about her interested me. And Edward. I really thought I would like him considering the huge fanbase he has, but I just want to mock him. Every time he opened his mouth and said one of his cheesy lines, I wanted to smack him. He's way too earnest for my taste. I like my characters to have a bite to them, you know? And I really thought he would have it considering he's a frickin vampire but nah, h's way too boring and sweet and nice and i'm falling asleep just typing this.

Also, I didn't know you were a backup for vm_Santa fic! hat pairing are you writing?

I read through all three of them trying hard not to smack my head against a wall. Bella was every single cliche in the book. I think Meyers was going for a she's so average, but look to vampires she's a super model, isn't this so clever? Honestly, I found the Cullen family fairly interesting, especially the doctor and his wife, but the plot line was hard to watch. Im not sure how they are even going to make it into a movie, its so slow and uneven.

I agree, NOTHING like Harry Potter. Besides everything else, by the third book Rowling was a decent writer. Meyers writes books on the level of Baby-sitters Club books. Which makes sense, that's her target audience, but still, she's not a phenomenal writer by any means.

Good luck with your boss, you can do it!

I haven't read it and probably won't. You confirmed what I suspected. And truthfully, I read A LOT of young adult fiction when I was a teen and frankly, I don't want more. I want adult stories, they can be about teens but I want that mature, adult perspective. I want bite (*hee*) and grit and grey areas and I don't want anyone to be "LOVED" by everyone...

Though I probably should just shut up as I haven't read the bloody book *grins*

I actually agree with a lot of this, as much as I love the books. Actually, I think it's how I can to love the books: I try not to read too much into them, try not to take them too seriously, and I think if you do that, they're a lot of fun in an escapist sort of way.

I went into them aware that they weren't literary majesty, but after a semester of Dante and such, I needed something like that. And in letting my brain wander and get completely suckered in by all the plot twists and poorly written characters, I really loved them. Part of the reason I got tired of HP after a while was because it started to get so heavy and less fun, which was not what I wanted in those books.

So I get it depends on what kind of experience you want. I wanted a kind of fluffy, easy read that may take itself seriously but really shouldn't. I'm excited for the movie in the same way.

I haven't yet gotten into the whole "Twilight" thing (although SO many people I know online are insane about it, so I'll probably check it out at some point) but I have so very much been in your shoes where the work thing goes ( ... )
