I was on an expedition to Africa, Botswana, in the early 70's as a young teenager. It was a scholarship I won. Any way, we were out in Botswana in the Okavango River Delta and there were only 15 miles of paved road in the country then. There were Black Mambas there, but it was the dry season, so they were not around much. Still, what we heard about them was that if you get bit by one, the saying was you 'put your head between your legs and kissed your ass goodbye!"
The crocodiles were more dangerous. There were six people who had been killed in the river that year. People did their wash in the river and bathed there. We did too. We were lucky!
