I had some trouble reading that, because pretty much everyone I have dated was literally (meaning actually, literally, not some "figurative" thing) diagnosed as mentally ill at some point. (2 borderlines (argh, learn to recognize the symptoms, it's worth the time investment), a bipolar, and an aspergers). The thing is, everyone channels some of those traits at times
( ... )
I agree. I've dated and known men who do label women crazy or "bitches" or other denigrating terms because they don't want to hold up their share of the relationship, as in the article, but I've also known quite a few women who were either mentally ill, sexually promiscuous, pathologically aggressive, cruel, or otherwise bad bets socially and sexually. The problem with a lot of feminist writing and discussion is that it tends to see everything in black and white, all-or-nothing paradigms, with everyone conforming to one sort of behavior, rather than people being as diverse behaviorally and socially as people really are. So there are men who fit the stereotype portrayed in the article -- but there are more who don't, and plenty of women who have the sort of personal problems that make it impossible for them to have good relationships with anyone.
