Our representatives are currently facing an angry electorate -- and there's an election in November this year. People are extremely upset about unemployment and other issues, and cutting NASA's budget isn't going to make them any happier. Plus, some states have many people employed in Aerospace, and representatives of those states are keenly aware of the fact that their jobs hinge on keeping aerospace going. Obama and his administration may have lost their minds, but Congress and the Senate are seeing signs of their own unemployment coming soon unless they do what they can to head it off. This is one way to head it off.
BTW, is there any way that anyone could show that by trying to keep NASA alive I'm a racist? I'm sure that Obama's people will claim that I am without a shred of proof, but still. (BTW, the guy I want to see in the White House is Lt. Col. Allan West -- who is about ten shades blacker than Obama. So who's a racist?)
I could stomach the NASA cuts much more if they were coming from, say, a President Ron Paul who ALSO was slashing just about every OTHER federal program. What is particularly galling here is the wasteful gusher of spending for things Obama happens to like, while "burning the seed corn" with programs like NASA.
