This is starting to look a lot like a scientific version of Contagion and Similarity -- almost as if the mystics were somehow aware of a garbled version of actual quantum mechanics. But how?

Up until the 20th century and the great revolution in physics, they couldn't have been aware of it in an intellectual sense. But Magickians and shamans work with their unconscious minds, know when to trust them, and heuristically, they know that if you establish contact between two things, after that they behave as if they were still in contact, even if they're a good distance apart in space and/or time. Also, shamans and Magickians have long worked on the operating principle that similar things respond similarly, and that they have an underlying kinship of sorts -- an extension of what is clearly true about families, clans, and tribes of creatures. It's a short jump from there to the idea that kinship or not, all things that are similar behave similarly, living or not -- and that treating one of them a certain way will be as if they were all treated that way. All worked out heuristically. Plus, the vertebrate brain, and maybe all brains, uses quantum mechanics to make its information processing almost as efficient as that of ( ... )
