Seeing things like this -- I kind of understand why certain traditionalist cultures want to destroy this country. Whatever, this is not in ANY way what I envisioned 21st century America would be like. Even the '60s, as fucked up as it was, was better than this cesspool we live in now. At least people back then still had some shred of morals left...

Yes. However you cut it, this latest sexing-up of small children by Hollywood is an absolute abomination. Libertarians really ought to step up to the plate and roundly, LOUDLY condemn it and anything like it, rather than ranting about freedom of speech vs. censorship, as so many do (or are they closet pedophiles, one wonders?). This is not what the founders meant by political speech or other expression, and is therefore not protected by the 1st Amendment. It's utterly evil -- training toddlers to become tarts and prostitutes is about as low as you can get.

The really depressing thing is that Toddlers & Tiaras has a frighteningly large following. From the study I saw last year, it plays especially well in the Midwest and the Deep South [thankfully, with Atlanta being a notable exception]. It was not at all popular in New England or (interestingly enough) most of California. [It stuck in my mind because of the nagging question: "Who really watches that crap?"...but now I need to find the study again]

How strange! I hope somebody's conduccting a study on this. I'd have bet those from California would have liked it most of all, because the DQ (ditz-quotient) and San Fernando Valley index are so high there, whereas Southerners tend to be very practical and savvy about what TV really means. Maybe those in the South see it as comedy or something, and watch it for etertainment? ^O^

Personal anecdote to follow - data indicating that this toxin has been fermenting for a very long time ( ... )

Oh, I do find it bitter-funny -- partly because of the look on my step-sister's face. There's "thunderstruck" and then there's "THUNDERSTRUCK."

Oh, to be a fly on the wall . . . XD

Unfortunately, the child pimping^H^H^H^H^H^H^H pageant industry is BIG here in the South. [Particularly in the suburban/rural South.] At best, it's as if the girls are just animated dress-up dolls. At worst -- let's not go *there*.

Good Lord! That's hideous. Dante had a place for pedophiles and other users of children: Bolgia 1 of the Eighth Circle.

I just found it somewhat terrifying that the regional demographics for fans of "Toddlers and Tiaras" almost PERFECTLY matched those of the Duggar shows and religious broadcasting.Move over, Warren Jeffs! There's company a-comin'! That the two populations have the same demogrphics suggest two things: exactly what you hinted at here, that there are an awful lot of pedophiles or greedy people hoping to pimp their own small children to make large fortunes; and that an awful lot of what rnt-and-rave ( ... )
