I'm so glad I'm a man. ^^

I think there are drawbacks to being either gender, but they're different. The one thing we should all rejoice in is that Western civilization has been so successful at protecting mother and child during childbirth, and helping to keep mothers and their babies healthy afterward. It could be very much worse. :-D

When Meag was pregnant with Rivka, we had Braxton-Hicks contractions together. I called her up to see how she was doing, and she complained of the contractions, and I said "Me too! Knock it off!"

The funny thing is, I've had a hysterectomy, so I'm all "What the heck am I contracting with?"

Er. As far as contractions go, there are plenty of muscles in the abdominal area, including around the pelvic basin, so they probably were the result of contractions of such muscles.
