I have no idea why they did that, nor would I know how to react if they actually had to have the police sent for them (so I hear).

If they want to say no to something, just say "no" or "nay" and not leave.

Yes, but that's assuming they're intelligent, honorable, and non-cowards. Which, in their case, is a very tall order.
