City's hate of religion taken to Supreme Court

I wonder how much of San Francisco's tax base consists of Roman Catholics. If that city succeeds in throwing out the Roman Catholic Church, there should be an exodus like nothing in the city's history before.

I don't think so. Some of those older neighborhoods have plenty of well-off Catholic families who have been there for well over a century or more, and their property and other city taxes are considerable. But if the city pulls this on them, they'll move -- probably to Seattle, or New York City, or some place less hostile to Catholics.

I doubt it would come to that. Looks like it amounts to the City Council kvetching about religious doctrine they don't agree with. It would take a lot more than that to get people to move.

That's true, as long as it's restricted to kvetching. But if they try to evict the Roman Catholic Churches there and otherwise ban the Church in the city, believe me, there'll be an exodus, and the tax base will be seriously dinged as a result.
