This would explain why they are short-sightedly selfish. They're not capable of rational selfishness, because they're so focused on whatever it is that they want that they ignore the long-term (or even, in some cases, the moderate-term) consequences.
Yes. It fits very well with the behavior of the psychopaths I've known, given some room for variations in intensity of the syndrome. Something cuts out anything that might make them hesitate or delay the attempt to gratify themselves, and, at least temporarily, they become little more than a set of appetites on legs.
