Hi,
I noticed that you added me to your friends list. How did you find my LJ or hear about my LJ? I think we have a few friends in common here. I see that you live in Seattle, Washington, which is a city and a state that I may want to live in one day in the future. If not, Seattle, then maybe somewhere north of it or maybe even to the east. I really like the scenery in Washington State.

You made an intelligent comment on someone's blog that I read regularly, so I wanted to look at more of your posts. All you have to do to add somebody to your friends list is hold your cursor over their icon and click on "Add friend" when the menu comes up. That notifies them you've added them as a friend, and they can decide if they want to add you to their friends list. -- I moved to Seattle from Santa Barbara, CA in 1987, and have never regretted it. Western Washington is the most beautiful region I've ever experienced -- I love volcanoes and tectonically active regions (I was born and raised in the Los Angeles Basin, so maybe it was from that -- the LA Basin is highly tectonically active, though not with volcanoes), and I love mountains and oceans, so this is paradise for me. I also like the cold winters -- So. Cal. was hot and humid a lot of the time, with smog added to the brew. Here, not so much smog, and it blows away soon, thanks to the winds off the Sound and the climate in general.

I see. Thanks.
So you have lived all along the left coast all your life. I've spent most of my time in Florida, but have also spent some time in North Carolina, Texas, and the DC Area.
If I didn't do Washington State, I'd maybe do the New England area. This is likely off in the future.
My sister lives in the Los Angeles area. I visited her a couple years ago in July. I don't know if somehow, maybe this went against the normal weather patterns, but I was surprised at how moderate the weather seemed and how it was, in July in the mid or high 60's in the morning there. Of course, Los Angeles is too expensive to live these days and traffic is ridiculous over there.
When it comes to cost of living and things like buying houses, is it fair to say that Seattle is in the same range as the Miami area, except, I think home prices have really falled in Miami whereas I believe in Seattle, the market wasn't hit as hard as Miami, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.

I love the so-called Left Coast for very different reasons than a lot of people have. I'm a native to the region, having lived on this coast all my life, and love its shores and tall, rugged mountains and deserts and occasional verdant oases of life. The western states are emptier than the eastern ones, and I'm happier in areas of lesser population than those with higher population density. Above all I love the tectonic energy of the region, given off by processes far older than humanity, older by tens of millions of years. The atmosphere or aura of the place, whatever you want to call it, enables me to get away from myself, my own ego, away from people, and deeper into life and the universe -- perhaps not physically, but spiritually and psychologically -- and I need that the way I need water and air. If I move from here, may it be to someplace west of the Mississippi, and preferably no more than 600 miles from the Pacific Ocean. I couldn't be truly happy otherwise.
