Best Way to Get a Shiny Charmander

Jun 07, 2011 00:37

I bought a used LeafGreen and I've been trying to reset for a shiny Charmander, but after about 3 days i've begun to wonder, what is the fastest/easiest way of getting a LEGIT Shiny Charmander ( Read more... )

When going after any Shiny Pokemon, it takes a lot of patience.
And a lot of time on your hands, haha~

Using the SR method your chances of getting a Shiny are 1/8000, but with the Masuda Method your chances are better at 1/2000 (and I think the chance is higher still here if you're using Pokemon BW).

At the moment, I'm about 150 Eggs into a Shiny Snivy hunt but nothing yet, so I guess I have to keep trying!

Sometimes when you're browsing the GTS you may come across a Shiny Pokemon which luckily asks for something not impossible, so maybe you want to try GTS surfing sometime? I've gotten a Shiny Litwick and Shiny Kyurem this way. :)

but aren't those usually hacked/cloned?

and is it really easier to hatch one in BW? because if that's true, i can try and see if anyone wants to help me trade over that French Charmander and one of my males to my Black Version.

It's hard to tell, especially because you can't view specific details on a Pokemon until you've traded for it.
I usually take the risk and if it's obviously hacked I'll put it back up for trade again.

According to some people at Smogon it is, so I guess there's only one way to find out.
If you're going to resume your hunt on BW, I wish you good luck!

...I used to bred, I daresay, more than 2000 Tepigs (I don't count the boxes since I kept some and abandon some along the way, so I couldn't count...was doing that for one entire month though) when I try Masuda Method before I quit, and had been trying to soft reset for Totodile for an entire week without any luck before, so...-_-"

You can soft reset for one, use Masuda Method for one or RNG abuse for one. They're all pretty hard to do (I've never tried RNG before myself, though). .-.

Masuda method is the fastest way to get one without RNG, I think, since the odds are much better (1/1300+ compared to 1/8120). I haven't tried resetting my game to get a shiny starter, but I'm pretty sure the odds are the same as wild shinies. Seconding RNG- it's probably your best bet if you want one fast. I haven't tried it but once myself, but it isn't nearly as time-consuming as trying to get a shiny otherwise.

As far as how fast it took me from personal experience to catch some, the only legit shinies I caught were a Magikarp, Zubat, and Rattata. I don't know how many Pokemon I ran into before them, other than I had 600+ hours logged in between those two games. Interestingly enough I ran into a shiny Rhyhorn in the Safari Zone that ran away only half an hour after seeing a shiny Manetric in the Battle Tower. Bad luck, I have it.

I think I still have one that I got in a trade. I'm pretty sure it was RNG'd for perfect/near perfect stats and shiny status, but it's still a shiny pokebro. :)
