Arceus GTS Giveaway Part II: Electric Boogaloo

Apr 05, 2010 13:06

Okay, I've got my GTS giveaway server back up. Here's the planned schedule for the week:
If you were looking for Mew, sorry, it'll be just a few days. I want to make sure everybody gets a shot at the other Pokemon I had up for offer.

Instructions and Explanation
Dr. K's GTS Server is actually a virtual machine running a script called " SendPKM" by the awesome LordLandon. This program lets you use your computer to impersonate the GTS and download any Pokemon you want into your Generation IV cartridge. This works on Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver.

Here are the instructions to connect to my GTS server. Note that these instructions will not work if you are using the Nintendo WFC USB dongle as your access point -- instructions for those are in the next LJ-cut.
  1. Boot up your copy of Pokemon on your Nintendo DS.
  2. At the main menu, go to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings or Nintendo WFC settings (depending on your game)
  3. Click on "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings"
  4. Choose the connection you are currently using. (If you don't know, pick Connection 1)
  5. Use the scroll bar to scroll all the way down to the end.
  6. Click the "No" button next to "Auto-obtain DNS".
  7. Click the "Edit" button next to "Primary DNS".
  8. If there is an IP address already present, and you haven't used SendPKM or connected to another GTS server before, write down that IP address somewhere.
  9. Input the GTS server's IP address. As of this posting, the IP address for Dr. K's server is 66.142.148.149. Click "OK". When it asks if the settings are correct, click "OK" again.
  10. Click "Test Connection". If any message other than "Connection successful" shows up, check to make sure you entered the proper IP address. If the IP address is correct, then it likely means the server is down and you will have to try again later.
  11. Click "Save Settings".
  12. Click "Back" twice. You will return to Pokemon.
  13. Choose your save game and begin play.
  14. You will need to access your game's Global Trade Station/Global Terminal. The GTS/GT is in Jubilife City in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, the GT is in Goldenrod City.
  15. Access the GTS like you normally would.
  16. When you connect, you'll get a message that says "Checking GTS's status...". After this message, you will receive the Pokemon.
  17. If you don't get the Pokemon, you should instead get a menu with "SUMMARY", "SEEK POKEMON", and "EXIT". Pick "SUMMARY" and you will receive the Pokemon.
  18. At this point, pick "EXIT". DO NOT OFFER A POKEMON ON THE FAKE SERVER. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL NEVER GET IT BACK.
  19. If you want to receive multiple copies of the Pokemon, simply repeat steps 15-18.
  20. When you're finished, make sure to go back into Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings and turn "Auto-obtain DNS" back to "Yes". (However, if it was already set to "No", simply re-enter the old IP address.)
If you get a blue screen or other weird connection error, try again with six Pokemon in your party. Also doublecheck the wi-fi settings to ensure you entered everything correctly. If you still can't get it to work, the server probably crashed -- leave a comment and I'll restart it.

If you're using the Nintendo WFC Dongle...
You're not out of luck! You can still connect to my GTS server. However, you will need to change some settings on your computer.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own a Nintendo WFC USB dongle, and have not actually tried these instructions. However, they should work in theory. If you have a USB dongle, please give this a try and inform me of your results.
  1. Click Start, and pick Run. A dialog box will pop up.
  2. Type in: notepad %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  3. Click OK.
  4. A Notepad window with a bunch of pound signs and numbers will show up.
  5. At the very end of the file, hit Enter to go to a new line, and type in (all on one line): 66.142.148.149    gamestats2.gs.nintendowifi.net
  6. Note: If the IP address for the GTS server has changed, make sure you substitute the correct value.
  7. Click File, Save. Do not close the window yet.
  8. Follow steps 13-19 above. You do not need to change any settings on your Nintendo DS!
  9. Once you are done, go back to the Notepad window you were editing earlier.
  10. Delete the line you typed in earlier. Do not touch any other part of the file.
  11. Click File, Save.
  12. Click File, Exit.
EDIT: Apparently, these instructions do not work. If you have a USB Wi-Fi dongle, you're out of luck for the moment. Sorry :(

I will be available intermittently throughout the day for "manual" Arceus trades, if for whatever reason you can't get your Arceus from my GTS server. I am only trading Arceus today. Tomorrow I'll trade Jirachi, Wednesday Celebi, and so on, corresponding to the above schedule. To request an Arceus via normal Link Trade, simply respond with your friend code and I will try to get you one as soon as I can.

Hack Warning: All Arceus are legal (indistinguishable from a legitimate TRU Arceus), but are cloned by SendPKM. If you don't like cloned Pokemon, please do not participate.

Dr. K's GTS Server Status:

EDIT: The server is experiencing some weird connection errors. If you can't connect right away, give it a few minutes and then try again. Should be working now!
