Part Three, or Blackjack and Typhlo Monopolize The Comm

When Cynthia returned to the ward the next day, the orderly who cleared her immediately whispered "You'd best watch yourself."

A scream of "Unworthy FOOLS!" from Cyrus's room said more than the nurse could. The guard who had been outside was gone from view, into the struggle inside ( Read more... )

Cynthia listened intently to the doctor's words, frowning and shaking her head. She marched up to the bed, glaring at it's occupant.

"You never learn, do you? Have you been listening at all to what I've been telling you?" she snapped, quickly giving the nurses a comforting smile.

She smiled, managing to look both kindly and forbidding at the same time. "I said it was a short match. And Garchomp, as I'm sure you know, is a very fast pokemon."

He nodded. "How did it become so strong?"

A simple sounding question, but he wanted to know more. Why did she claim emotions had so much to do with it? He had even evolved a Crobat through battling and didn't waste time with petty compassion, although it was said to be impossible to obtain a Crobat that way.

"Garchomp?" She was surprised that he was actually asking about her and her pokemon, but it was a nice change of pace, so she was more than willing to answer. "We've been together since we were both very young. She was my first pokemon, and my first true friend. Mind you, we didn't start off very well!" she said with laugh. "I remember that she tried to bite my fingers off in our first training session ( ... )

Cyrus shook his head. "I don't understand that sort of thinking. There is no greater good to be had in that." But something had stood out to him. "You said that it was your first true friend. The importance you put in such a thing, the way you speak so highly of that connection...yet you did not feel it until you became a trainer?"

"Oh, I had friends before I met Garchomp, or Gible, as she was back then. And they were excellent friends. But Garchomp...it was just different. I think part it was because I had to fight to earn her friendship, so when I had obtained it, the bond just felt...different. Stronger, more powerful.

You may not understand, Cyrus, but Garchomp is living proof of how the power of love can strengthen someone. Remember, just because you don't understand it, it does not mean it doesn't exist."

"I know," he said softly. "I know, for instance, that humans must dream. I know it is necessary for health. Yet I do not know why it happens, nor what causes it. You see, I do know that things exist that are beyond even my comprehension."

"Then why do you fight them so?" she replied bluntly. "I've proven to you how powerful emotions can be. Why do you insist that they are meaningless and useless? I know your experiences with them are bad, but you're the exception to the rule, as cruel as that may sound."

"Because they ought to be meaningless." For a second, his voice had its full strength, but all after was hushed and tired again. "History has shown that love leads to hatred, and such things to war and tyranny. Do you think there was a dictator in history who did not believe themselves to be doing the right thing?"

"Perhaps. But you are insisting on using very negative examples. What about those figures in history famed for their kindness? Their mercy? Their compassion? Hatred leads to love, Cyrus. It works both ways, you know. I mean, look at us. I used to hate you to your very core."

"Such things have never affected the world in the way--" Cyrus stopped abruptly, looking over at her. "...Then you no longer do. What has replaced it?"

He felt strange at her words. Something inside him was tense, waiting for her to speak next.

"Well, I wouldn't exactly call it love, persay," And she laughed. "But my feelings towards you are not venomous anymore, put it that way. What about you? Do you hate me?"

It wouldn't be and he hadn't expected it. What she said was about what he had thought, but phrased oddly, and that sensation grew.

"...I don't know if I ever did," he admitted. "I can't say for sure. I thought that my want to strike you down was out of necessity, as you stood in the way of the next creation. But I enjoyed the thought, and if was only what needed to be done, I would not enjoy such an act. Expecially not to the degree I did..." He had averted his eyes for the last part.

"Did what?" she asked, curious. In a way, she was both surprised, and not surprised at his answer. She knew that he considered hatred pointless, but still; she was his enemy, after all. Some resentment would be expected, at least.

The coldly logical way he viewed everything was both interesting, and unnerving.

Did what? The feeling flooded him and he thought he would be ill again. "W-what I did...to you...I enjoyed it...how shameful! I cannot permit such violence..."

She thought for a moment, puzzled by his vague answer, before it dawned on her. "...ah." she said, unconsciously moving a hand to her throat. "Well, at least you think it's wrong." she admitted. "I'd be a little disturbed if you...ah, wanted to try again, haha." Her laugh was weak, and sounded forced.
