Sadly, contests themselves weren't quite relevant to Konata's interests... not YET, anyway. For one thing, she preferred battling; for another, she didn't feel that she had the right Pokémon for contests.

Still, that was neither here nor there. Right now, Konata had another reason to head over to the Contest Hall, and that was to meet up with her new friend, a mysterious natural ditz trainer who'd managed to kick-start her drive to actually get out there and take on the Gym Leader challenge.

"Ah, here it is." Konata slowed down as she approached the Contest Hall, both because she was starting her search for Yui and because she was getting bogged down by the crowd.

... there really IS nothing like the weekend lunch rush to spark a healthy fear of getting crushed by a mass of trainers, she thought. And then Konata grinned. She was an otaku, one of those who'd been forged in the very fires of hell anime conventions. This wasn't going to stop her

Perhaps it would be a good idea to do something to draw attention to myself?

The thought, while a bit narcissistic, was probably a good one at the moment. There were a lot of people around today after all, seeing as the Contests would be starting soon, and it was lunch time and who wasn't busy during lunch time? And considering Kona-chan and she had never met face-to-face, it only made sense that she should try and do something to get the other girl's attention.

So with that thought in mind, Yui stood up on the bench she had been seated on and waved her arms over her head, turning from left to right and calling out, "Kona-chan! Over here! Kona-chaaaaaan!"

... well, if nothing else, THAT was definitely an effective way of drawing attention.

"Eh? EH!?" Konata's head turned immediately at the sound of her (nick)name, her green eyes widening at the sight. That was Yui. No doubts about it. Even if she HADN'T been calling Konata's name, standing on a bench and yelling would've struck her as being a very Yui-like thing to do.

Konata quick-timed it over with almost indecent haste, trying to ignore the stares and/or odd glances being thrown their way, and waved at Yui to get HER attention. "A-Aah, I'm here, I'm here! You can stop yelling now!!" the shorter girl added as an afterthought.

Upon seeing the blue-haired girl approach her, Yui immediately stopped her waving and leapt down from the bench. With an excited squeal, she lunged forward and grabbed the other girls in a tight hug. "Kona-chan!" she chimed. "It's so good to finally meet you!"

With that said, she let the girl go and took a step back to let her catch her breath. "Are you ready for the journey?" she asked, suddenly sounding serious.
