I haven't done that many battles, but my Dusknoir with ice beam and (I forget the name) Ghost Punch seems to work pretty well.

i always start with milotic and typhlosion (i prefer double battles.)

milotic is extremely useful due to everyone and their mum starting out with dragon types/tyranitar. typhlosion is amazing, as combined with his speed, eruption will often take down both of the opposing pokemon.

for the other two, it really just depends on my mood. more often than not, togekiss is one of them.

Like sora_no_kokoro said, you really have to have a team bred and raised specifically for competition to go through Battle Tower, even the in-game Battle Tower.

That said, I use an Eevee team. ._. Well...the couple of times I tried BT out so far, I've used Leafeon and Vaporeon and $Filler. They've served me well~.

I used Banette, Umbreon and Milotic on my first time and I did pretty good! Banette and Umbreon were at level 45 and Milotic was only at level 41 and we did pretty good. Then again they were all competitively brought up, so.

I used Empoleon, Roserade, and Luxray for my first time. They kicked butt! :D
