Really quick trading question?

I have a quick question - I am about to restart my White game, but this time I wanted to raise some older generation Pokemon as part of my team right from the start (I want to trade a Charmander egg over as soon as I can trade with my sister's Black and raise it, along with some others, basically); will I be able to do that at all, or do I have to

You can do that- I had someone give me a few older pokemon before I beat my game and all it did was not give them a dex number.

The "you can do it, but it won't have a dex number" bit is right. I haven't beaten my game yet, but I have a chikorita and a couple of vulpix on it. There's nothing weird about them except, like you said, their number is listed as ???.

So, yep. You should be okay.

I haven't done Elite 4 yet and have a Poochyena and a Jiggleypuff (that I evolved) and a Ponyta from the Dreamworld, so I guess you can have these things before having the National Dex. ^_^

you can even cheat out the HM moves by doing this...

my husband traded me a Ducklett egg and I hatched it to get a ducklett that knows dive, fly and surf!

It's pretty fantastic being able to fly when you've only done 2 gyms!
