It won't hurt in game. I've had Alakazam in past playthroughs with Sp Atk hindering natures and they still kill everything.

Really, you only need to worry about natures/evs for competitive battling.

The main thing with Natures is that you want to look for one that will reduce a stat you won't use, and increase another stat you will use ( ... )

I understand! Thanks so much. I guess it would make sense to have a nature that reduces a stat you WON'T use.

I'll keep your advice in mind.

I know I'm not the OP but that helped me too. I don't battle competitively except for random match-up rotation battles now and then but this will help.

Thanks!

Adding onto this, passing the nature down with an everstone also works with a male of the species. But this has only recently changed, I think in HGSS?

You can catch an army of dittos with every nature; it's really worth it in the long run. :]

Just depends on your strategy.

When it comes to competitive play, it's entirely up to you where you want stat EVs to go...and natures are just another factor in the equation.

When it comes to story play...it really doesn't matter. For things like the battle tower, you will want more competitive play capable pokemon, but for the most part just have fun with the game and you'll be fine :)
