Hey, so.. My friend's birthday was last week, and I decided to prepare a Filipino dish called "puto" for her party. They're little steamed rice cakes that use a special pan. Anyways, my mom apparently got a new pan because the one I borrowed was a different shape, but as a final result, look at these things!

I made a pan of about 50 or so, the house tore through them so fast!
Though none of them were specifically flavored, they were still sweet and addictive. I did once modify the recipe and added cocoa powder, and the result tasted like large, soft cocoa puffs.
I figure mashed fruit or fruit juice might add some flavor, but it's got milk in it, so those might not agree directly with them. They taste great without flavors anyway.

You could use coconut milk.

Fruit doesn't necessarily argue with milk, so long as you don't go too acidic, strawberries, berries in general and bananas are a good mix with milk.

They totally were! My mom's regular pan was way deeper, so they never looked like this. I kinda like the new pan.

Those look awesome! What a perfect shape! :o I've never had puto, but I'd really like to try making them now, but I have no clue where I'd get a mold like that.

When I was thinking about what the poffin flavors would translate to in real life, I always figured green tea would be a great "bitter" flavor, and that leaving them plain but a little sweet would be good for a dry flavor. I think I'd also thought of cinnamon or anise flavor for spicy, citrus for sour, and vanilla for sweet, but I could never get the actual dough recipe down, so I never got very far :c My first batch turned out so terrible that I gave up, haha!

Well, firstly, it's more of a batter. It's definitely not a dough, and you spoon it into the steam pans. As for shape, if you want to do your own, the next easiest solution supposedly is to take a muffin pan and put it in a larger pan of water on the stove, then get a lid for the larger pan so the steam can run. My mom tells me her friend bought the pan from an online retailer. I wonder if those 'pancake puffs' pans work...
