I think with a fandom like Pokemon, it's hard to write "wrong" fic. I mean, unless if you have them acting so absurdly sappy or romantic or generally OOC for a normal human being (unless if the point of the fic is to emphasize the ridiculousness) you can't go particularly wrong.

I understand the feeling to not write "wrong" characterization - I have the same worries when I write - but a lot of times, new authors in fandom who have not adapted the fandom "canons" have the best ideas for stories. When you feed off of the same "canons", it eventually becomes a cycle of perpetual sameness.

Why hello there! Always happy to see a new writer jump into the fandom! Anyway, personally, I dabble in PokeSpe writing too, and trust me, it is as fun as writing for the games (: I've written pretty evenly for both the two 'worlds' and there are many other competent writers out there, it'd be hard for me to pick a few :/ But back on topic, personally, I think that Bulbapedia is a pretty good resource to get a grasp on characters, especially because some articles include the character's personal quotes in the game. Handy. Are there any characters in particular you want to know more about?

I love Silver in HGSS <3 He's like this somewhat badass boy who attempts to act tough, and whose unfallable determination just wins you over at some point in the game. Of course, he's pretty mean in the beginning :< but that's just him being anti-social and hostile, imho. He warms up sooner or later. And I picture him as someone who loves to tease Kotone, pushing her around and stuff. I can't give too much away or I'll spoil you D:
