[Those small airborne shards are what get his attention first, as opposed to the woman throwing them; he crouches down as he picks them up, turning a couple of the fragments between his fingers, studying them with a vague smile across his features.

They're quite pretty, you know. Catching the light just so. Interesting. Reminds him vaguely of the orbs - there's power here.

Or, well. There was. Not much now, clearly.

And then there's the matter of the person that threw them - wanting to get rid of them, perhaps the one who wielded...whatever this thing was when it was whole. Or perhaps not. Might as well see.

...although he isn't exactly expecting the person he finds in that direction. So many surprises, Cynthia.]

Are you sure you wanted to do that?

[And he won't be too cryptic this time, as he's perfectly willing to show her what he's talking about - he'd pocketed most of those fragments before standing up, but he's still holding one of those shards in plain sight, trapped between the ring and middle fingers of his right hand, ( ... )

[[Cynthia turns, frowning, trying to place the familiar voice-

...ah. He's not too bad at surprises himself, really.]]

Quite sure, yes. Keep them if you so desire.

[[She shifts a bit; not with the intention of giving him room to sit down, but to ensure she can grab a pokeball if it...becomes necessary.]]

No knife this time?

[He doesn't seem too inclined to attack her, but he isn't exactly sitting down, either. Not too sure how close he wants to render their proximity, after all. He's content to stand for now, snapping the fragment back into his palm without pocketing it just yet.

The comment about the knife seems to amuse him.]

Assume what you like, though I'm not the sort that needs to constantly flaunt my weapons just to prove that I have them.

Just a thought.

[[...well isn't that a wonderful thought

thank you for sharing]]

I'll take your word for it.

Good, good.

[Oh, he's noticed your displeasure, Cynthia. Don't worry, he isn't feeling much in the mood for idle threats today.

He's pretty content to divert his attention back to that fragment in his hand, actually, toying with it and passing it between his fingertips in a soft twisting motion, watching it catch the light again and again.]

So what was this, if you don't mind my asking?

[[She pauses for a moment, tempted to look back to the sky. But she resists the urge; taking her eyes off him doesn't really strike her as the wisest thing she could do right now.]]

Fragments of a chain made from the bodies of three of Sinnoh's legendary pokemon. A man called Cyrus was using it to...

[[And she sighs, running her fingers through her hair.]]

To try and recreate the universe.

[He glances at her at that, that same smirk still present across his features; he seems more entertained than truly interested in this bit of information, and he doesn't maintain eye contact for very long.]

Sounds like an interesting person.

A friend of yours?

landsharkchamp August 25 2010, 01:10:19 UTC
'Interesting' doesn't quite sum him up, I'm afraid.

[[When he does hold eye contact she returns it; however, she's glad it doesn't last for very long. His eyes unsettle her.]]

...you could say that. We were close, anyway.

oceansbane August 25 2010, 01:12:55 UTC
[He smiles a bit at that; not necessarily a nice expression, but it's more situational than aimed at her - he's content to not keep eye contact.]

You do have a tendency to get on with team leaders, don't you?

Reply

landsharkchamp August 25 2010, 01:14:57 UTC
Well you and I are such good friends, after all.

[[Yeah she's not even going to touch that one; at least smiling is....somewhat nice?

...except not really, coming from him.]]

[He's not fazed by that comment. At all.

It's a good thing you like smiling so much, Cynthia. Speaking of - ]

From what I understand, Team Galactic's goals seem to go against what you seem to like. Even more than Team Magma's, I'd say. Though I can't say much for how much more humane his methods might be.

[That gemstone stops very abruptly between two of his fingers, locked into the same position it was at for the start of this little conversation.]

Or maybe I can.

[[...she really doesn't want to start thinking about your methodologies, Maxie.]]

What point are you trying to make, exactly?

oceansbane August 25 2010, 01:40:24 UTC
[He laughs lightly at that; the gemstone resumes that slow, casual motion between his fingers, traveling over and under in an easy path from one side of his hand to the other and back again.]

I'm not trying to make a point, Cynthia, it's just an observation; I'm perfectly capable of noticing things without passing any sort of judgment. It's not exactly my place to do so here, anyway - at least not when it comes to this matter.

[He pauses for a moment before continuing; his voice has actually calmed down significantly when he speaks again. Though that smile is still there, his tone has become rather subdued.]

I assume this endeavor of his didn't end well.

Thanks to me, no, it did not.

[[The way that fragment is sliding across his fingers is almost hypnotizing; she finds her gaze drawn to it, the way the sunlight catches in it, making it sparkle.

If only it were just a gemstone.]]

I'm sorry.

[Except his tone is fairly nonchalant when he says it. He's not being mocking, of course - he isn't about to be sardonic. At the same time, sympathy has never been his thing.]

I should hope that you don't regret it.

[...nor has tact, really.]

landsharkchamp August 25 2010, 02:01:19 UTC
I don't regret doing it at all. I just regret that it had to happen.

[[Cynthia then seems to realise that she...actually managed to get some kind of sympathy out of him. Sure, it's....questionable sympathy but it's still....kind of nice.]]

I...well, thank you. But I'd rather not dwell on it in such a way. Moving forward is the best option; I can't change the past.
