I think the Director went on record to state that they cut the last bit from this movie (it'll be in the next one) because it left test audiences really confused as to what was going on. Apparently a good deal of them thought the walking into the sky thing meant Lyra was going up to heaven and had died or something.

...man, it sucks to hear that this isn't amazing. My childhoooood.

Ah, I never read that! Yeah, I guess it would be a lot easier to put it at the beginning of the next one so people are clear on that.

Maybe all the fantasy movies I've seen are blurring together, but they could have made it so much better! sob.
