[drabble; canon update] Dreaming

Weeks since that day he had that dream...

And it still sat in his memories, fuzzy, but not ever fading. Sometimes he would get confused which was reality.

Allen often volunteered to help the Finders with clean up after missions--for as long as he could before he was sent off to the next mission, of course.

This time had been an Akuma battle at the edge of a village, so just a few houses needed repair. The Order didn't always have enough resources to fund rebuilding what was destroyed by battles between Akuma and Exorcists, but Komui would try, whenever he could. The main branches didn't agree that it was the Order's duty at all and would continually yell at Komui how it was a waste of precious resources--the towns should regard it the same as storm or flood damage. The Akuma was the townspeople's own fault, after all.

Allen tried to help as much as he could. The townspeople wouldn't come around when Allen was working though. Superstition about unicorns punishing people for viewing them without being pure enough--although it was always awkward and uncomfortable when young maidens came to him like some sort of religious pilgrimage.

Today, there was none of that. No townspeople staring from windows, no Finders skipping around awkwardly, and no whispers from the shadows.

Just a nest knocked loose from one of the destroyed houses, parents not likely coming back.

Allen put the small nest in a box he kept for times like this, with the special pads the science team had given him to help keep nests warm. He'll just have to move the flower pots in his room and talk to Ty--

He stopped. He didn't have flower pots in his room. There was no one sharing his quarters.

He could feel Link's eyes on him now, just by the tense air suddenly, but Allen just shook his head and continued on, putting the nesting box out of the way. Link had been ... noticing. He was concerned it was a ploy from the Noah, Allen was sure. ... Sometimes Allen wasn't sure if it was something from the Noah or not.

Whatever it was, he had to just let it go and forget it.

Even if part of him didn't want to forget about wishful dreams of building a wooden cottage with those who had become so dear to him.

When he talked to Lenalee about the dreams, she had told him to "Be strong and hold on to the real world, because as real as dreams can be--they're only dreams."

Allen wondered if the dreams were supposed to be some sort of side effect to his tempt to exorcise Tyki Mikk's Noah--as twisted as that made him feel, almost dirty.

He asked Komui if he thought the Crown Clown sword could affect his mind in any way. The Supervisor rambled off many very science-y sounding theories, but said there really was no wait to tell. Innocence usually didn't effect the mind of the Exorcist--unless they Fell, of course.

"So do you mean, you are experiencing trouble, Allen?"

He smiled politely and shook his head, "Ah, it's nothing. I would just wondering if I had anything else to worry about."

Komui leaned forward on his hands, looking at Allen over the brim of his glasses. "If you are experiencing mental distress, it's more likely the 14th. You do realize that, don't you Allen?"

Once again he smiled but nodded, all fake. "I realize that, sir. I'm not experiencing any trouble, I told you. I'm fine."

"... If you're sure." Komui sighed.
