What is LJ?

Apr 26, 2003 02:02

weetanya brought this up in her LJ some time ago, but it's something I'd been wondering about as well. I just wonder . . . how much do you feel like you're "performing," or writing for other people? Is your journal just for you, and whoever reads it does so at their own risk, as it were?

I basically do this for myself, but it's not a diary of my inner most thoughts. I definitly moderate myself down to things I would only talk about in a comfortable public setting. So there are whole topics that this forum isn't approriate for, like my relationship (I really can't stand when people carry out thier fights in LJ), or my Son, or things like that. I'm the kind of person who thinks very heavily about the idea or concept of things, and that is what I generally put down here. Issues that bounce around in my head rather than an account of what I do on a daily basis.

*nods* I find myself using the Private option when I want to write a, well, private diary-like journal entry -- stuff that I want to get out, but that I don't want people reading until after I'm dead. :) It's kind of interesting sometimes to look back and read through, to observe the boundaries I set on what I'm comfortable sharing and what I'm not. Sometimes, with the distance of time, I unlock the entries, and occasionally, I'm surprised at what I made public. :)

The things I write just to get out of my head but don't really want to share I leave as a private entry but other things I write with the understanding that they will be read by others. Sometimes, like the past 2 weeks, I feel like I am constantly harping on one subject so I use cut tags to keep the whining at a minimum for those folks sick of the topic! I guess that shows that I really do care what other people think when they read my rantings!
