Caught up on the Whoniverse

I'm actually caught up on Doctor Who and Torchwood. This is a first.

Unfortunately, I can't say that my affection for Who has increased. I dislike different things about it now than I did during Ten's run, but, well, I'm still watching it primarily for spouse and friends. Left to my own devices, I'm not sure I'd tune in.

Out of six seasons of new ( Read more... )

i agree with your comments here - though i wish i didn't.
i'd also add that dr who has very rarely worked with the clunky baggage of more than one companion at a time.
and the built in bits are fairly moveable and bogus.

it really grates on me that Moffatt just gave out the other day that he is just watching firefly for the first time.
first time?! well pardon my skepticism but c'mon - RIVER SONG?!?!

it is, however, less shouty and better edited than when ten's series ran off the rails around season 3.

torchwood is less annoying but - le sigh - that is only coz it's meh.

sad really.

Less shouty! I love that -- it's perfect, wytchcroft! Yes, Ten's series was quite shouty, I wholly agree. I'm borrowing that in conversation with friends, but I will give you full credit. :)

Seriously about SM watching Firefly for the first time? Hard to believe. I mean, heck, it's only what, 13 episodes? He could've installed a telly in the bathroom and watched it in there when he had time, as short as it is.

I'm interested in Torchwood: Miracle Day, but I'll be the first to admit that it's no Children of Earth. I miss the old ensemble cast from S1 & S2. I like Phifer as an actor, but I don't much care for the character of Rex Matheson so far. However, flawed Torchwood is better than no Torchwood at all, in my humble and wholly biased opinion. ;)

yes, i think we were pretty well spoiled by children of earth. so good. that said - i miss the early lightness of Jack and Dr 9 sometimes. i liked Ecclestone a lot. (even if i have probably forgotten how to spell his name!)

big fan of the audio Dr Who series still.

How odd: my husband just mentioned this yesterday: that he misses old, flirty Jack.

Eccleston remains my favorite Doctor thus far. He's a very talented actor, and showed both range and subtlety in portraying the Doctor. He did a beautiful job ... a really moving performance in so many ways, showing transition points in the midst of the character's grief ... forceful when he needed to be forceful without overplaying it ... he's just good. Really good.

Obviously I agree, as I not only remain a huge Doctor Who fanboy but the Smith/Era is possibly my favorite, but I did want to thank you for giving your thoughts. I can respect your points, though they generally never bothered me.

Speaking of Smith, I assume you've heard this rumor?

Thank you for understanding: I did try very hard to like it, and thoroughly enjoyed two seasons ... I'm not giving up on it, either. Now that I'm caught up, it makes sense to stay current, if only to be informed enough to participate in discussions about it. :)

Side note: have you ever visited the Doctor Who museum in Second Life? I liked the sense of humor on display (I'd be walking along, interacting with an exhibit, and I'd look down and see an Adipose sitting there, for example). It's the most popular fandom in SL by far.
