Alien prequel?

Ridley Scott to direct Alien prequel film for Fox

IMDB lists it as being actively in production, but no actors appear to be attached at this time. An Alien prequel could be quite enjoyable if done properly. I count it as a good sign if Scott is engaged enough by the script to return to the material.

On the extra features disc of the Quadrilogy set Scott talks about how he was always fascinated with the dead pilot of the ship carrying the eggs, and wanted to tell that story. In the brief conversations he had about doing a second movie it was a prequel, before Cameron got involved.

My opinion is, it is doomed to suck without a human POV character, and it's difficult to see how that works with the mythology.

Well, yes, there is certainly always the possibility that it could suck. I will defer to you, as I believe you are a bigger fan than I am. :) (My level is more, "Oh, huh, new Alien movie? I'll probably go see that if the reviews are good." I doubt I would own the DVDs if it weren't for David.)
