Things that I like about crochet

Crochet is cool because ...

• It's portable and requires no electricity, unlike laptops, PDAs, and cell phones. If you're standing in line or waiting for something, it's easy to pick it up, make a little progress, and put it down again.
  
  
• It's a fairly inexpensive hobby. Oh, sure, you can get in deep if you're buying lots of patterns and very fancy

Mostly true. But in some settings crochet/knitting can be looked down upon, even when it's doing no really harm. During lectures for instance, and some meetings.

Many people with ADD find that knitting helps them concentrate on other things at the same time, so knitting during a lecture or meeting would actually be beneficial to them, but many teachers and bosses are against it. I don't have ADD but I find that it helped me pay better attention in class as well, but I had a teacher who took my knitting as a personal attack against her. (Either that or the fact that I knew the material better than she did, and was able to get all As 'despite' my knitting and 'not paying attention' during class.)

knitting is EASY, and fun, and there are so many cool things you can do combining both knit and crochet its amazing.

True -- I definitely hear what you're saying about settings where it gives the appearance of not paying attention, even though you certainly are. My friend lexmaniac also mentioned the ADD/yarncraft connection to me, and it makes sense to me.

Sounds like that teacher needed to work on some issues of insecurity. Was she against laptops for taking notes, too?

*grins* I want to learn how to knit, but I'll admit that I'm intimidated by the second needle. I am not the most dexterous person in the world.

Hehe, sadly that was my excuse for putting of crochet for so long, making things with only one needle seemed impossible, I needed that second needle for balance! :p
