Incredibly happy

As in jubilant. As in joyous. Elated. I feel like I've rediscovered . . . well, perhaps not buried treasure exactly, but of a sort.

Two upgrades ago, I was a good little Banshee and backed up all my data. However, part of the backup was zipping up my MasterCook files. If you've read my journal for any length of time, you know that I genuinely ( Read more... )

I have recipe files, too, and I know I'd be devestated if they got hurt!

Ah, someone who understands! *smiles* Recipes are very important sentimental bits. I don't know if you've ever seen the movie or read the book Like Water for Chocolate, but I think it conveys very well the power of a specially-prepared meal. Recipes are a blueprint to recreate an experience or memory. For example, my Mom's sweet potato recipe, handed down through three generations now, is a defining characteristic of Thanksgiving. Very strong associations there.

If you use MasterCook, I'd be glad to export the cookbooks and share them with you. :)

I *just* got Mastercook the other day, actually. My recipes are all in word documents (organized, at least), and they're from all over the place. I never bothered keeping track of where they come from since it's just a personal thing, but you're welcome to them, if you'd like. To be honest, I've not made many of them; I usually use recipes as a guide of what things work together, but most of my cooking is just "a bit of this, a bit of that." :-)

That's really cool. I'm not a great cook, but I do have a small collection of my own recipes. The only problem is that my grandmother's recipes often use ingredients I cannot obtain in the US. But I can empathize because I'm a somewhat of a packrat-scrapbook-collector. I would be so devastated at the loss of my mementoes...

You may have already tried this, but I've heard some hard-to-find ingredients can be ordered through the 'net. Someone told me you can order Chinese sausage online, for example. Might be worth a look, if you haven't already. :)
