a moral conundrum

Hey there LJ'ers. I have a conundrum for you. I desire the new Regina Spektor album but am unsure of whether to buy it or pluck it from the interwebs. I want to support Regina because she seems nice and everything but I don't want to support her record label. See, they keep sending her to Myth, that abomination in Maplewood. I'd love to see ( Read more... )

Are you sure that Regina Spektor does not desire to play in Maplewood? If you're sure, I would say don't pay for the CD, she'd only get a dollar of your 12 anyway. Then go see her when she plays live in a reasonable location and give her 11 dollars.

Even though I'm no LJ'er, I'll put my two cents in:
I say STEAL STEAL STEAL!
Everyone makes choices, including her. She chose her record label and in doing so chose the Myth. It doesn't take a lot of brains or living in this area to figure out that the Myth sucks.
Good luck Max.

I'm the one who said the label books the tour. If they don't, who does? I'm sure Regina isn't picking since she played the Quest before Myth twice and I've seen a lot of artists who used to play the Quest who now play at Myth.

i can tell you from knowing tons about this shit that the best thing for you to do would be to buy some sort of merchandise directly from her shit at the show. the people who are sending her to that show are her booking agency, who most likely work in conjunction with her management and maybe her label as well.

however, that merchandise you buy is probably skimmed off of by her management and the club as well. so that's a potential hazard. im really not sure how it works when it comes to big names.

as for album sales, a lot counts for first week sales and how the album charts. different labels do things differently but for the most part, i believe very little is made directly off of purchasing a disc at a store.

Oh, maybe I should have read this post first. Stupid booking agency.

I'll just do what I usually do with artist I respect and throw a handful of cash at them. I will try to refrain from shouting "Show your tits!" this time as that got me in a lot of trouble last time. Who knew Hannah Montana would be such a prude?
