SPN Fic: Now Done Darkness (Dean/Castiel, Dean/Sam)

Apr 12, 2009 18:25

I read aesc's just beautiful Dean/Castiel artfic Apocalypse for Beginners (please go look and drool and be awed now, if you have not already), and then watched nearly two seasons of Supernatural in a week so obviously this happened. It started off as a bit of Dean/Castiel fluff and then turned into a what-if apocalypse scenario. I only wish I were ( Read more... )

MOAR.

By which I mean, this is a universe begging to be expanded on. It sounds fascinating and oh-so-very Winchester, and it's just the sort of ending I'd love to see. I'd love to see a few more stories in this 'verse if you could squeeze in the time.

Hell, just post more on this board, period. Your writing is awesome!

Heh, thanks for commenting. I don't really write SPN, normally, but the current arc has lots of fic potential and possibility...

i sort of love this quite a fucking lot. because this? this is awesome. it's brilliant, the kind of thing i'd love to see in the show, something that could quite possibly be canon because it's so dean, so sam, so utterly them that i just, alfjd, i don't even know, i just want to see more of this.

and speaking of sam, i love that he's a good guy here (as much as any of them can be good guys) and that he's commanding angels, of all things.

brilliant! :D

Hee, aww, thanks very much. That's really kind of you.

And yeah, this whole dichotomy Sam-as-antichrist Dean-as-messiah thing in the show had better go somewhere good and unexpected. Because, um, I think we might see the obvious coming? Heh.

They're all a little bit fucked up, trying to do what's right. And that's way more fun.

this is so amazingly well-written that i don't even mind you've succumbed to writing supernatural XD jk

i am a bit in love with your portrait of Castil - which is odd, because i stopped watching the show in the second season so i have no idea what canon!Castiel is like, really.

this bit is so very gorgeous: When they fight battles in cemeteries or near Devil’s Gates or any crossroad where the demarcation between Hell and Earth is thinning Castiel stands behind Dean with his wings spread, sword in one hand and the other splayed against the skin of the small of Dean’s back so that Dean can lead his armies in silence.

Eee. More coherent reply tomorrow-- but I'm glad you liked it. I thought of you as I was posting, thought it might be a bit more up your street than my SGA stuff. Even though it is, indeed, Supernatural. Oh dear. :D

(PS- you really should watch S4. S4 grasps that the show is kitschy and over-the-top, so it's very funny, self-referential, interesting. Also there's a lot of crying, and hugging, and ANGST, and pretty, pretty angels making sexfaces at Dean pretty much the entire time. Er. Not that I'm shallow or anything.)

that was exactly what i thought; on one hand is "mmm, this is supernatural, which i don't particularly read (mainly because i'm not into Dean/Sam)" but then on the other hand i read and it was like "ah, this is really my stuff". and it's great because it's also clearly SO different to your Harry Potter stuff and i really enjoy how your writer-voice adapts to each fandom.

(i should watch the Castiel stuff at least, i am very tempted. my main trouble with Supernatural is Jared Paladecki - i can't explain it and i know it's irrational and not the show's fault, but i can't look at the guy's face. i have Jared-phobia. if Sam were played by any other actor i'd be right on the Dean/Sam boat like everyone else, probably)

Oh noes. Yeah, if Jared bothers you then it's definitely an issue. I started off fully committed to Dean Winchester and his badass self and his general awesomeness, but somehow the show has convinced me into appreciating the woobie, ridiculous doe-eyes of Sam as well. Oh dear. Dean/Sam...is kind of so there that it feels a bit pointless writing it? At least, writing it explicitly, and I have to admit I've only read maybe one or two SPN fics myself... (I felt the same way about Simon/River, too, interesting watching the show with those spectacles, but very difficult to find/write fic that got it right-- the subtext in these cases often so much more delightful than making it the text...)

Hee-- I think partially SPN feels quite comfortable to me because it's writing on a big and fantastical canvas. (The apocalypse/war etc.) The characters are kind of subsumed into tone/plot/ideas. (Completely the inverse for my SGA fic, I think...)

This is beautifully imagined, and it gets the tone of the show just right. It's like apocalyptic poetry. Thank you for writing. ♥
