Right, so, of course I'm obsessed with Stargate: Atlantis now, this is old news. But I haven't watched every episode yet. Finally got around to watching Season 4x10 'This Mortal Coil' just now and erm, it made me incredibly angry. Not the plot itself, oh no, but rather the extraordinarily sloppy way in which it was structured, considering the way ( Read more... )

There are actually very few replicate!team fics, and I don't know why since they were mighty interesting. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I know there's one in the 2008 Big Bang fics, so I'd check there first. Good luck.

Thanks, Ariana. I actually thought that you might be one of the people to hit up for this. :) I think I've seen that Big Bang fic summarised somewhere, but it was before I'd seen the episode and so I kind of ignored it. Will go back.

It is such a terrible shame that there aren't any more replicate!Team fics, they're awesome. I mean, it's our ridiculously awesome Team, only + struggling with humanity + having no place in the universe + ultimate freedom to do anything but go home. How could this be in any way bad? I actually feel a little guilty for cheating on real!Team with them, in my head.

PS- Your icon makes me so happy.

I totally agree with you - especially about the replicated team being just as, if not more interesting than the original team. I can't exactly remember, but it always seemed to me that the ending wasn't as black and white as everyone thought. With Sheppard healing himself just before they were all 'killed', I like to think that maybe they are still out there, in replicator hands or having escaped.

The ending struck me as pretty open as well-- I mean, they've got healing nanites, a crash wouldn't really kill them. I want to believe they're out there somewhere, going on missions, catching the balls that the real!Team have dropped, moving through the galaxy leaving only the occasional rumour, cause you know, they never actually come out and say they're from Atlantis, and y'know, they've changed their hair. And hey, if the natives on MX-452 or wherever seem a little more friendly and knowledgeable than they ought to be about Sheppard and his team it just means that word is spreading, right?

What? Shut your mouth, heathen! John Sheppard would never change his hair. It is a sentient being and has rights, dammit! :P

But on other notes, exactly. And I want them to live forever, long past humanity, and Earth, and eventually commandeer the abandoned Atlantis and run into the crew of Firefly. I firmly believe this could happen. Yes.

Dude, I kind of wrote the fic that I described to you. And omg, Firefly crossover. *resists*

Ok, maybe I should have said, Weir would try and make them change their hair, for subtlety. But Sheppard's hair doesn't do subtle.

I don't know this SGA of which you speak. Just saying hi. :) *waves, throws chocolate*

OMG. *clings* Hello you. How are you? What have you been up to for the past, gah, year? Tell me things about you! Are you still writing/active in fandom-y stuff or has RL taken you away? You know, just a few weeks ago I was talking about HP to someone in RL and Two Worlds and In Between came up and I got to be smug and say, 'Hah, I know McT on LJ and she's totally awesome'. I felt internet famous-by-proxy, it was very satisfying.

(I've been such a fickle fandom presence, man, and I've completely been stolen away by Stargate: Atlantis. I have become an OTPer. I have negative fandom cred now, sigh.)

LOL! But I can brag that I know Pogrebin on LJ! Status, like whoa. :D

TWIB lives, but not in any immediate-conclusion way. My fandom presence has been highly erratic... didn't post as McTabby for over six months, before slinking back to LJ in September. RL broke my brain about a year ago - couldn't write/create anything at all for months, most frustrating. Nipped off to a different fandom, did a lot of reading, then started writing again there to get my groove back.

Right now, I'm confident enough to say I'll be writing for yuletide this year. (Last year was quite impossible, and I did miss Yuletide so.) Also intend to keep up the McTabby LJ presence - not every day, but hanging around. I've still got bunnies for that other fandom. For HP, I've been working on more of that (don't know if you saw it when I posted the opening chapter last year, before the RL brain-eating) - anyway, not posting publicly yet, but it's good fun. :)

PS- If you are serious about not watching SGA, do it, do it now. John Sheppard=Harry Potter and Rodney McKay is the Draco Malfoy of every HP fan's silky wet dreams, only instead of being evil he's, y'know, Canadian. :D

What else got to me is that the replicateTeam watched everyone on replicateAtlantis die when the Asurans attacked. Yeah, those were true replicators and not, you know, Radek or Keller or Lorne, but still, that had to screw the Repliteam up a lot.

Oh my. Yes, I never really thought about that. But obviously it really, really would. Also watching the city itself be destroyed, the place that they call home. And the writers obviously get this, because they use the destruction of the fake city to make the audience freak out with Carter's vision. We breathe a sigh of relief that it's not the real city but it's still a headfuck, cognitive dissonance, the way something you dream can unsettle you for the rest of the day even though you know it's not real.

I like the phrase Repliteam. :D

It's an annoying TV thing, like the fact that all romances have to be concluded within 40 minutes in many shows because the actresses are only contracted for one show.... All moral dilemnas, tragic accidents, and duplicates have to be resolved by show's end, when the slate is cleaned. *gnashes teeth*

I've written several repli!Rodney and repli!John stories: Montsalvat (repli!Rodney wakes up alone in a virtual reality: where is his team?); Only Someone Running (crossover with ThoughtCrimes: just who is Brendan's boyfriend Mer?); and Determination (repli!Shep is taking it hard; McShep for the IJ porn battle). It was a concept with such great potential... but like a lot of great concepts, it fizzled out. Thank goodness for the great big sandbox of fandom.

Oooh, oooh.

Thanks for the links. I know nothing about ThoughtCrimes but I will give them all a go. :DD

The fact that you have written repliTeam stories makes me incredibly happy!
