First off, recs: Resonance Structures by fahye is Doctor Who, Doctor/Master, and gorgeous. A game of chess, science and linguistics, and eternity at your fingertips. On a similar John Simms note, also go read Life on Earth by ariafic which is a Doctor Who/Life on Mars crossover which speaks to all the dark and joyful places of my brain-- Sam Tyler can hear the ( Read more... )

Yes, yes, yes. I think this puts words to some of my feelings about the finale.

Especially:

... yes, he is a shadow of a God, clever enough to know just how painfully small he is, squished into this singular, aging body with nine hundred years of memories squeezing into every corner of his skull. With his mind he could unknit the fabric of the universe, but his hands can't grasp the threads.

and

The Doctor has given them each other out of kindness, but really, all that confirms is just how inhuman he really is.

and

It's perverse that it is his inhumanity that she loves, and that is exactly why he won't ever love her back.

and, well, all of it, really. ♥

I confess, I am both delighted and frustrated, because this is the fic that has been lingering in the back of my head since I watched the Season Finale and here it is, made real, before I could write it and far, far better. This sums up exactly the wrong present in Rose's consolation prize, despite what a pleasant idea it was. But there's still some sweetness at the end there. Or hope, maybe. dshgkjdsg Dammit, I adore you.

you are into Doctor Who now? yay! *brain is consumed by it* We need to geek out about the Master and his awesomeness.

I don't normally read anything with Rose in it, but I'll read this later. *is excited*

...I wanted their story to be difficult and fucked-up and off-kilter, but you took that envelope and pushed it off a bloody cliff. Dear god.

the universe forks in two directions and Rose Tyler turns left

Anyway, you are a CRUEL PERSON but I forgive you because of the perfection of this sentence.

<3 Thank you for the rec!

I don't know if you have read any of these, but if you are on the look-out for DW recs you must stop by ariafic's Manifesto, noldo_'s the frozen hours, and th-esaurus's Metric. The first two are Martha-era fics, brilliant and surprisingly sophisticated for the DW fandom; the last is Master/Doctor, & unsettling liek oh em gee.

On the subject of this drabblything: Eek. More or less sums up my feelings about the season finale (HAPPYENDINGYEAHRIGHT), but as amazing as always. Extra style points for:

The Doctor has given them each other out of kindness, but really, all that confirms is just how inhuman he really is.
