PSA: Salmonella and peanut butter link

northbard has the details in a public post over here. Particularly at risk are protein bars and the like. Salmonella is a fairly dangerous thing, and it doesn't leave any human-sense-apparent traces, so it's worth your while to check, if you use or consume peanut butter in North America (I believe; it may be further, that's all I'm aware of ( Read more... )

The hospital where I work discarded all peanut butter out of its inventory and is not restocking it at all until the outbreak is over.

Turned out that the chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies that I'd happily been snarfing were very much on the list. I hadn't gotten sick in over two weeks of eating them--but my husband and I decided not to take the chance. Out they went.

You never know, the next one might have been tainted.

I haven't hand any Clif bars in weeks -- and I won't have any more for at least a few more weeks, so I should be pretty safe. :)
