“Dean Winchester is saved.”
Anna turned around. “What?” she said. The other students studying around her at the college library glanced quizzically at her and some grumbled. She looked all around her, but could not see who had spoken to her.
Where had that voice come from? It had sounded so…near, and it was urgent, yet calm at the same time, a whisper. And strange as it might sound, it sounded sexless, neither male nor female. Just a voice.
“Had he given in yet?” Another voice, with the same urgency, less calm. Just as ambiguous but more powerful.
“No,” the first voice said, “but his soul…” The voice faltered.
“Castiel, your orders were to pull him out of Hell and back into his body. Did you do that?”
Anna was hyperventilating now. What was going on? Noticing the strange looks she was getting, she quickly gathered up her books and papers and stumbled towards the exit.
“Yes, he was buried. I watched as he dug himself out. He is safe.”
Oh God, what was happening? Who was Dean Winchester? Anna half-walked, half-fell down the stairs. She didn’t even know anyone named Dean Winchester. And why would he have to dig himself out? And out of what? Hell?! Body?! What?!
“Does he remember?”
Remember what?
The first voice, Castiel, hesitated slightly. “Not everything.”
“Then make sure he does. Speak to him.”
“I will.”
Ohgodohgodohgod. She slumped down on the steps, hands clutching her head, nearly pulling out her hair in frustration. What was wrong with her? She was going crazy.
A light tough at her shoulder made her jump. Anna looked up into the worried eyes of a young man. “Sorry. Are you okay?”
Anna stared at him with wide eyes for a long moment. “No,” she whispered. “No, I…I…” she whimpered, tucking her body back into a defensive position. She sobbed, “Leave me alone. Please.”
But they didn’t. They were not always there, and sometimes she could not hear what was being said as clearly as during her first experience, but she often heard things that she instinctively knew were not meant for her ears…whispers of the end of the world, the coming of the Apocalypse. Whispers of the angels, to other angels.
“Dean Winchester is saved.” “Dean Winchester…” “Dean Winchester is saved.” “Saved.” “Saved…” “Raised from perdition…” “Lead us…” “Savior…” “Sam Winchester is turning.” “Lilith…seals…Lucifer…” “Stop it.” “Kill Sam.” “Evil…” “Demons…”
