Science fiction or not? The Adjustment Bureau

I had another of those, "oh no they didn't say a sci-fi thing isn't sci-fi, did they?!" moments yesterday on the train. And it's sad, because the movie (The Adjustment Bureau) looks interesting, it's based on a Philip K. Dick story, and... well, frankly, I wanted to see it. But now, not so much. That is indeed highly annoying. The quote didn't strike me as pretentious, though that could just indicate that my understanding of pretension resembles his understanding of science fiction. The quote did strike me as ignorant, misguided, and prejudiced. And a very big turn-off for people with half a clue about science fiction.

I think I read it as "I make art, not sci-fi," which to be fair is not *exactly* what he's saying.
