I recently did a podfic that had this same issue, with the footnotes. In my case, the footnotes were weird, so I decided not to read them in the middle of the text, but to read them at the end. You can find my podfic here and the text linked from there.

In your case, I'd say, read the footnotes at the end. Mordred is confused by the Italian.

If you need help with the Italian, ask! I speak Italian, although it's not my first language :D

Also, are you a fan of Pushing Daisies? :D

Thanks for your feedback on this and the link to the podfic :) That was helpful to be able to listen to what you did with the footnotes.

I'm leaning towards that option too, but I wasn't sure what people would prefer. I know I tend to like being able to understand what is going on even if the character is supposed to be confused.

Thanks for your offer :) But I'm actually working with the author about my pronunciation as she is Italian herself.

Yes, I love the show! I'm actually considering doing a rewatch of it as I haven't looked at it in months and have been missing it a lot ^^ It's still one of my favourite show. Do you know if there's many podfics about it?

Yay! Glad I could help. You weren't under any obligation to listen to my podfic, but I thought it couldn't hurt. Plus that one is pretty short, isn't it?

Ok, run with your gut instinct then!

Oooh, yay! That's awesome.

Awww. It used to be on Amazon Prime and then they took it off, so I can't watch it any more. The only podfic I know of is a very short one I did.

Here are all the archived podfics that have PD in them. Some are crossovers. Not very many :(

:)

Oh no :( I'm lucky to have been offered the DVDs so I can watch it anytime.

Not very many indeed that are strictly pd... I might try to record some after my rewatch to add to this list :) Have you ever considered doing some more yourself?

I've recently recorded a fic with a few teeny Polish phrases. I was going to add a comment in the podfic post that the translation can be found in the story as it was literally only a few words and a swear word. :)

Now you've got me wondering if I should add it to the end notes! D'oh!

I think this is a personal choice. There is no right or wrong. It depends on your desires and what you think works best. Also, how it relates to the work itself. In the future, if I encounter footnotes, I might make a different decision. So, up to you. Don't worry about it too much!

If it's only a few words I might not have thought much about it and done the same as you're planning, especially if they can be understood/guessed at in the context of the story.

Let me know what you decide to do, I'm curious to know :)

I've decided! Because it's only a few words - I'm going to list the translations in the AO3 podfic post. I don't think it takes away from the story at all not to know the translations. I mostly decided because I was listening to a podfic last night and it had a few phrases in French and listening to it, it didn't bother me in the least that I didn't know what was said because in context I understood what was happening. :)
